I am interested in carbon cycling, particularly in the boreal zone, and the connectivity of different environments (terrestrial, aquatic, atmospheric). My doctoral research at the University of Helsinki in Finland included an intensive analysis of total (terrestrial and aquatic, organic and inorganic) carbon cycling in one particular Finnish boreal catchment. For my postdoctoral research, I dive more deeply into aquatic ecosystems and take a broader geographical approach. I am looking at temporal and spatial greenhouse gas dynamics in lakes across multiple boreal regions in Québec. The aim of my research is to determine 1) if the factors controlling CH4 fluxes are consistent thoughout the different regions and seasons, 2) if there is a link between CO2 and CH4 fluxes, and 3) how climate change might shift the emissions balance for these gases.
In science I enjoy the possibility to use my brain, to solve out what are the causes and the consequences behind many phenomena, to understand the structure and function of my surroundings. I am, and I have been, fortunate enough to work with, to learn from and to interact with enthusiastic scientists. However, as scientific research requires many hours of sitting in front of a computer, I like to balance the exploration of the world through more concrete approaches, including outdoor field work, and dance.
