I am studying carbon cycling in boreal aquatic systems from a landscape perspective. Using tools such as GIS, I am exploring emergent properties of aquatic networks as well as large-scale biogeochemical patterns in lakes. Specifically, I am searching for which landscape metrics best describe the distribution and configuration of lakes. I am also exploring spatial patterns in the biochemical properties of lakes in relation to landscape features. I will then combine the landscape metrics with the biogeochemical patterns to map fluxes of CO2, CH4, DOC and DIC on a larger scale. Ultimately, I am aiming to improve our ability to upscale aquatic carbon fluxes to the entire Quebec boreal biome.
