The carbon linkages between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in Quebec - Li (Jan 2012)
Mingfeng's PhD project is focused on carbon linkage between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, aiming to explore the total carbon export (TCE) from landscapes to river systems and the proportional variation in DOC, DIC, POC, PIC, and dissolved CO2 and CH4 in TCE from different terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, the field observation is carried out mainly in temperate, boreal and taiga forest landscapes, which are respectively located in the Eastern Townships, Abitibi and Schefferville of Quebec, Canada. It is expected that a better understanding of landscape effect on riverine carbon export could be achieved through quantifying and integrating the relationships between carbon export and different landscape variables in the three terrestrial ecosystems. At the same time, the most important determinant controlling riverine carbon export in the studied regions could be preliminarily identified in a comparative way and the influence of anthropogenic activities on carbon export from landscapes also could be further understood in the context of native ecosystems.
